PRESS RELEASE: Paroc streamlines production control, Baltic factories benefit from SyncMes information system Print E-mail

Paroc Oy Ab, a manufacturer of specialised energy-efficient products and solutions, has adopted Syncron Tech's SyncMES® (MES = Manufacturing Execution System) information system. SyncMES replaces two separate, obsolete systems.

  – We sought to replace the old systems with a single one providing us with unified processes, explains Paroc's CIO Hannu Pääkkönen.

Paroc has production facilities in four Baltic countries. The objective behind the new system was to enhance the usability and reliability of plant-level production control, while improving information gathering and reporting capabilities. To meet Paroc's needs, greater production efficiency was sought through customised, detailed production planning and control functionality, alongside harmonised information gathering and reporting.

On the other hand, since Paroc's data administration wanted to cut costs and sought more flexible maintenance practices, the system was purchased on a SaaS basis.

  – Despite our purchase of the SaaS version, the system has been tailored for us. The application has proven flexible enough to be developed in the way we prefer. Rather than forcing our processes to conform to the system, the system was modified to suit our processes, Pääkkönen points out.

The new system was taken into use on a tight schedule. It was introduced in the pilot plant in Lappeenranta, Finland, in November 2008. At the end of last year, the Trzemeszno plant in Poland became its latest adopter so far.

– We came in on schedule by focusing hard on the pilot. Although Syncron Tech participated in the pilot, other units adopted the system more or less under their own steam, states System Manager Tarja Bergström.

Final adjustments are still being made, but the system is already producing tangible benefits.

 – The quality of our data has improved and it is now comparable. In production quality management, our key goal has been achieved: all production units are using the same methods and quality is uniform, explains Pääkkönen.

We also wanted an intuitive and reliable system. A novel high usability implementation solution enables factory floor-based operation from the service centre in Finland, and the achievement of the SLA target (over 99.9 per cent).

Although Pääkkönen had no personal involvement in selecting Syncron Tech as a supplier, he is satisfied with the company.

 – They have proven highly flexible, he says.

In the autumn, SyncMES® will be taken into use in Paroc's eighth factory, and Sweden's third, in Skövde.
