PRESS RELEASE: Syncron Tech system selected to enchance energy management at Stora Enso´s mills in Finland Print E-mail

Syncron Tech has been selected as the supplier of the modernisation project for the energy management system of the Finnish mills of Stora Enso, a company operating in the paper, packaging, and wood products industry. Stora Enso's production facilities in Finland, about 20 of them in all, account for six to seven per cent of each year's electricity consumption in Finland. Hence, even a minor enhancement in energy procurement is vital.

'The tender competition was tight, since there are several noteworthy suppliers in Finland. We thoroughly reviewed a number of high-standard options,' says Energy Services Country Manager for Finland Jukka Mikkonen at Stora Enso.

The Energy Services of Stora Enso procures energy for all of the company's sites in Finland. The system to be deployed is for electricity and natural gas procurement and optimisation for the Finnish mills. This system will allow monitoring and anticipating energy consumption, and planning procurement operations.

Stora Enso's existing energy management system in Finland dates from the 1990s and was upgraded most recently in 2004. Innovativeness and flexibility were the key requirements set for the modern system now to be implemented.

'The new system's architecture must not set any limits or restrictions. The objective was to have at our disposal new, and also better, optimisation solutions. We are expecting high availability and a good user interface,' Mikkonen sums up.

Project specification is under way, and the new system is expected to be in production use by the end of this year. In addition to Energy Services, the system will be used in the production facilities. There will be several dozen users.

Syncron Tech is satisfied with Stora Enso's decision to choose the company's system. 'We believe that our SyncPower product will provide a flexible and user friendly tool for energy management, as well as a solid basis for long-term collaboration,' says Syncron Tech CEO Jussi Kontola.
